Well as we all know the coronavirus (Covid-19) is in full swing and Is picking up pace rather rapidly, but I’m not here to put the fear into anyone, I’m here to help you to stay positive and to offer some advice on how we can try and prevent ourselves from catching the coronavirus (COVID-19) by boosting our immune system.

I also want to help people who suffer as I do from autoimmune diseases, I myself have Psoriatic Arthritis and Crohn’s Disease. For this reason I have to take Immunosuppressant medication, which helps me with my disorders, but on the flip side of this It weakens your Immune system.

These Immunosuppressant medications are very strong and need to be monitored, so I need to have monthly blood tests. I often find that my white blood count (WBC) Is low, these are very Important blood cells that help you to fight Infection and disease. With this In mind I want to help you make good choices In your nutrition, supplementation and lifestyle.

We need to eat plenty of Vitamin C rich foods, this will help to Increase the production of your white blood cells. These foods are also high In Antioxidants and Flavonoids, which help to strengthen the respiratory tracts Immune defence system.

Good sources of Vitamin C are: Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Red Peppers, Cabbage, Kale, Oranges, Kiwi, Blackberries, Grapefruit, Strawberries, Spinach, Lemons, Potatoes, Onions, Blackcurrants, Redcurrants, Raspberries and Blueberries.

We also need Vitamin A, which Is vital for a healthy Immunity and for good lung function.

Good sources of Vitamin A are: Carrots, Kale, Sweet Potato, Tomatoes, Peas, Whole Milk, Peaches, Spinach, Lettuce, Apricots and Eggs.

Vitamin D Is also very Important, It helps to regulate your Immune system. Good sources of Vitamin D are: Salmon, Eggs, Sardines, Mushrooms, Tuna, Milk, Cod-Liver Oil, Yogurt and Cottage Cheese.

Vitamin E has the Important role of boosting your Immune system. Good sources of Vitamin E are: Almonds, Sunflower Seeds, Spinach, Broccoli and Hazelnuts.

Next up is Zinc, Zinc Is an essential mineral which the body can not make on it’s own, It helps to support and regulate your Immune system. Good sources of Zinc are: Almonds, Beef, Oysters, Garlic, Pumpkin Seeds, Cashews and Dark Chocolate.

So what else can we do?

1. Drink plenty of Water. Stay Hydrated at all times and carry a water bottle.

2. Exercise promotes blood circulation, boosts white blood cells count (WBC).

3. Reduce Stress. Stress releases Cortisol which lowers the Immune system.

4. Limit Alcohol

5. Quit Smoking

Also we need to make sure that we keep our hygiene at the highest level possible, whether at home, work or elsewhere.

Below are a list of things to help with the prevention of catching and spreading the coronavirus.

1. Make sure to wash your hands with soap and water often, for at least 20 seconds.

2. When you sneeze or cough cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve.

3. If you have no access to soap and water then use a hand sanitiser gel.

4. If Possible then try to avoid close contact with people who are feeling unwell.

5. Flush or bin used tissues and wash your hands after use.

6. Be sure to always wash your hands when you get home or into work.

1. Avoid touching your mouth, eyes and nose with unclean hands.
